Biblical & Practical Leadership

Effective leaders understand the importance of the following principles and are able to properly integrate them into their leadership. Perfectly Flawed Leadership is dedicated to training and deploying these practices to individuals and teams who desire to lead effectively and Glorify God.

Servant Leadership

Biblical Foundation: Jesus modeled this by washing His disciples’ feet, stating, “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26).

Practical Application: Prioritize the growth, development, and well-being of your team members over your own status or personal gain. See your authority as a responsibility to elevate others.

Integrity & Accountability

Biblical Foundation: “The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out” (Proverbs 10:9). Leaders are also held accountable to God and others (1 Timothy 3:1–7).

Practical Application: Be consistent in your words and actions (walk the talk). Be transparent in decision-making and willingly submit to counsel and constructive feedback from trusted advisors or mentors.

Governance & Stewardship

Biblical Foundation: Leaders are accountable as faithful managers of God’s resources, obligated to use them for His purpose, knowing that ultimate ownership belongs to Him (1 Corinthians 4:2; Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25:14-30).

Practical Application: Implement rigorous financial oversight, transparency, and accountability measures (audits, clear reporting) to ensure all assets—financial, human, and time—are used effectively, legally, and ethically in alignment with the organization’s mission.

Wisdom & Counsel

Biblical Foundation: Leaders are urged to seek wisdom (James 1:5) and counsel: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22).

Practical Application: Do not rely solely on your own intellect. Actively seek diverse perspectives, listen deeply to subject matter experts, and consult with a team of wise advisors before making critical decisions.

Misson & Vision

Biblical Foundation: God repeatedly called leaders like Joshua to “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:9). Leaders are given a mission and vision, and must act boldly to pursue it.

Practical Application: Define a clear, compelling, and higher purpose for your team’s efforts. Articulate this vision often and show the courage to make difficult decisions or take necessary risks required to move toward that goal.

Disciple & Delegate

Biblical Foundation: Moses was advised by Jethro to delegate authority to capable people (Exodus 18:13–26). Leaders are called to equip others (Ephesians 4:12).

Practical Application: Delegate responsibility and authority to your team members. Invest in their development, trust their competence, and create space for them to learn and eventually lead themselves.
